Beyond Cancer
Yoga for Health Institute created Beyond Cancer – Healing the Whole Being, is in-person yoga intensive retreat, designed specifically to follow cancer treatments. Our team provides cancer patients with insightful knowledge, along with the tools and techniques needed to recover from emotional and physical side effects of cancer treatment. Throughout the 21-day intensive retreat, we work to educate and empower our clients to connect and experience their own healing power, so that they can regain a sense of control and balance, recovering the mind, body and spirit.
We have identified a large gap in the cancer healthcare systems around the world. Cancer patients typically undergo months or years of treatments which often result in severe side effects such as tension, pain, neuropathy, physical fatigue, cognitive dysfunction (brain fog), depression, mental confusion and loss of short-term memory. Once the patient completes treatment doctors explain that they have done all they could and offer no more support. Unfortunately, over 80% of patients suffer from severe side effects after ending their treatments, often not even realizing, simply because slow growth of side effects over the long period of time is not easily noticeable.
Program Purpose
To fill the gap in the cancer health care system. We work towards providing patients with the tools and resources to effectively heal their body, mind and emotions. We help to bring back spark in the eye and spring into the steps of cancer patients, empowering them with new beginnings in life.
The Beyond Cancer – Healing the Whole Being retreat is tailored to all who finished cancer treatments and would like to quickly feel well again. Our intensive retreat is based on yogic science which helps patients manage their diseases and symptoms. We introduce yogic practices such as, breath management techniques (pranayama), guided meditation, chanting, mudras and bandhas (yogic locks), deep relaxation of Yoga Nidra, gentle yogic postures (asanas), and implement these into patient’ daily routine.
The philosophy of yoga sees human as the being existing on many systemic levels – body, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. The balance in-between these levels mean good health, lack of balance means disease. Yoga therapy addresses all these levels through many evidence based yogic tools that are taught in the program.
Join us for the experience of a lifetime.
Program Structure
Week One
Week one encompasses introduction and practices of yogic techniques –pranayama, meditation, restorative yoga with mudras, asanas, yoga Nidra and chanting. We chose specific research-evidence practices experienced both on practical level and through the lectures on anatomy and physiology of yoga.
During week-two we continue with 5 hrs of yogic practices now more adapted to the individual needs and level of individual capabilities. In lectures we cover carcinogenic factors in diet, lifestyle, mindset and environmental toxicity with emphasis on natural detoxification. At the end of the week patients prepare the “Fridge List”, a list of healthy changes they will implement after coming back home.
During week-three we introduce Life Mandala – a meditative and deeply introspective process of reexamining the core belief system and reconnecting with one’s heart desires. This is also a week of review and preparation for going back home. Based on their progress during the retreat, patients are given “take-home” individualized yogic exercises, which they practice on their own under teacher’s supervision.
We have been running these retreats for over 6 years in India, Australia, USA and Europe. We had to stop because of Covid. About Harry
Harry came to us two days before the opening of the program, referred by my friend, a medical doctor. A quiet man from Canada with stage four lymphoma, he had just finished chemotherapy…
Jyotsna's story
Jyotsna came to us for the Rejuvenation for Cancer Patients Program in March 2015. A 35-year-old Indian homemaker from Delhi, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33.
“I attended the three week Rejuvenation Retreat for Cancer Patients conducted by Lee Majewski in October 2016 in India. This program is based on the practices and philosophy of Yoga. The retreat is very intense and had a very positive impact on all participants. It helped me to get over my emotional stresses and I came back physically recharged and with a lot of positive energy. Being healthy requires not only physical fitness but also a healthy mind and emotional well-being. Lee has a very good knowledge of yoga practices. She uses techniques like meditation and Yoga Nidra to delve into the psyche of the participants. Using specific interventions, she is able to bring out the suppressed negative emotions, which accumulate during the cancer treatments. She then helped participants to unburden these negative feelings and effectively get over them. Her capacity to understand the human mind and handling the emotions is excellent. She is truly a committed professional who understands the needs and emotions of people who have been through the trauma of cancer.”
