
The lecture has two parts, about one hour each. At the end of this 2-part lecture, you will be able to understand what spirituality is, how to apply it when client needs our guidance, and how to tailor our approach to specific client’s needs. Finally, you will learn about yoga therapist opportunity within the unfulfilled needs in healthcare setting.
The first part of the lecture will bring the understanding of spirituality and will discuss the evolution of secular definition of spirituality. We will examine yogic traditional texts and their relevance with regards to spirituality. Finally, we will learn of latest findings in research and what opportunities are open for yoga therapists.
The second part of the lecture deals with the application of spiritual principles in the work of yoga therapist. You will learn how to help and guide our clients in their healing journey using spiritual principles. You will find out what skills do we need in order to be able to do it with full benefit to our clients, taking into account their cultural upbringing, their level of education and religious conditioning. Finally, what do we need to do to increase our ability and skills to meet our clients where they are.
After spending around 10 years in ashrams and practicing yoga for some 40 years, the subject of deeper layers of yoga became very close to my heart. It seems to me that some of us in the west, have lost the understanding and lack the experience of spiritual aspects yoga. And yet yoga has so much more to offer than asanas and can be a very powerful tool in assisting our clients to heal themselves. Let’s start discussing these opportunities!
